Rei Kawakubo’s cutting edge concept store will unveil the space, which stays true to the Prada brands strong roots, on the 21st December. The neo-classical New York building located on the corner of 30th Street and Lexington Avenue will have the Prada space up on the 7th floor where the ideas and aesthetics of the ever-evolving luxury world constantly change. The Prada space itself will also be showcasing a selection of special clothing, accessories and shoes that will bear the unique label: Prada Dover Street Market for timeless classics.

The creative aesthetic that inspired Miuccia Prada’s last runway show has had an on-going influence for the opening of the retail space. Gabriele Spector, one of the leading mural artists involved in the decoration of the Prada show in Milan, has painted special mannequins exclusively for opening.

The area itself has been enclosed within polygon-shaped walls in which 2 large display holes have been carved. The glass elevator shaft, which connects each floor in the building, has had the 40 square-metre installation developed around it, while the walls of the space provide a backdrop to the clothes, acting as a blank canvas on which constantly-changing decorative themes come to life. Display fixtures and mannequins are upholstered in checked fabrics making it an eye pleasing experience for who goes to visit.

Keeping true to the roots and aesthetics of Prada, the space flooring is covered in black and camouflage green chequered carpeting, a definite reminiscence of the iconic black and white marble floor in Prada’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele store, which is based in Milan.
