Topman TV × Raleigh Ritchie

Topman TV have joined forces with actor and musician Raleigh Ritchie for an offbeat short film.

Topman’s crowd-sourced video project, Open Shoot, is an ongoing series that’s previously seen the likes of Ghostpoet get creative with the help of thousands of Topman fans and creatives alike. Most recently, the project broke exciting new ground when they asked Game of Thrones star – and sometime musician – Raleigh Ritchie to not just star in, but also write and direct his own short film. Inspired by his song “Cowards” (a cut taken from his album You’re a man now boy), the film, entitled Hi Maintenance, explores the various stages of a relationship through that most versatile of greetings: “hi”. Sometimes friendly, sometimes flirty, and sometimes angry, the term acts as a vessel for the emotional ups and inevitable downs of the couple depicted in the film.

It’s an intriguing concept, and is further enhanced by the off-kilter, playful mood of the whole thing, which features an appearance from actor Matthew Beard, as well as strings composed by Rosy Danvers – a woman who’s cooked up arrangements for megastars Adele and Kanye West. Not bad, hey? And that’s to say nothing of the scores of fans (of both Ritchie and Topman) who got the chance to get involved with the project through social media participation, shaping the film from afar and even appearing as extras or calling the shots as crew members.

As well as the short, which was released a few days back, you can also check out a few behind-the-scenes videos which feature interviews with Ritchie and the crew, and give an insight in to the film making process. Watch this space: there’ll be plenty more from Topman TV yet.
