LFW: Paul Smith SS17

Dainty floral friendship bracelets and daisy chains inspire Paul Smith for SS17.

In The Garden

It’s no secret that Paul Smith is a fan of florals; but for SS17, he plays with your average cutesy floral and reinterprets it into something much more exciting. The designer takes a hand-drawn floral and applies different methods like jacquard and printing, to create a seriously fresh and modern take on spring/summer. The result is a wirey, abstract, multicoloured floral that pops marvellously over elegant dresses and skirts. The navy and white pieces contrast with the rainbow floral, creating mysterious, sultry looking garments.

Easy Breezy

Paul’s collection is inspired by the carefree happiness of picking petals in the garden and making garlands and friendship bracelets out of flowers. So it’s no wonder that his designs consist of loose fitting pieces that are full of cheery, floaty goodness. Dresses are made loose so that they naturally fall onto the body, while tops drape over skirts with ease. Despite Paul’s loose fit designs, the clothes still manage to stay ultra feminine and flirty, as well as crazily sophisticated. The collection will definitely boost your mood with its uplifting colour palette of grassy greens, mellow yellow, pretty pinks and oranges.

Summer Uniform

Just because you don’t work in summer doesn’t mean you have to ditch the workwear style! Paul turns stuffy suits into a light, easy outfit, complete with cropped trousers and flowy jackets. Pale hues and light materials make workwear spring/summer appropriate, which is ideal, because picking flowers in the fields is very serious business.
