William Blake’s art, imagination aiding escapism and exploded ruffles: the British house unveils its new cultural collection.

When attempting to create, designers often look towards the wonders of art and culture as the foundations for their latest collections. And, one designer who does this better than anyone else is Alexander McQueen. Continuing on with this legacy, the British brand unveils its Menswear Collection.

Setting its sights on the English poet William Blake, the collection is an ode to escapism induced by art. Harking on the illustrations and profound penmanship that established him as a leading creative force of the Romantic Era, the collection is laced with the thick sketches and watercolour swirls synonymous with his work. And with the concept of imagination as a facilitator for escapism on the brain, McQueen hones in on the artist’s creativity further as soft tones and rippling fabrics invoking the triumphant feeling of ethereal beauty emerging out of the darkness.

While the emotive messaging at the heart of the collection impresses, a nod to the seamless tailoring and menswear skirts is necessary. Joining zipper-adorned suits and embroidered vests are tailored tuxedo jackets complete with “exploded ruffles”, retaining the avant-garde flair McQueen is known for. Cascading chiffon, tulle and organza skirts provide dreamy dramatics amongst some of the more clean-cut offerings, culminating in a truly balanced collection with culture at its forefront.
