BIRD – “WHAT THE NIGHT KNOWS”

The talented multi-instrumentalist releases an evocative new single taken from critically acclaimed soundtrack, “Wider Than The Sky”.

Janie Price, known as Bird, released her semi-autobiographical, award-winning short film, “Wider Than The Sky”, to incredible audience and critical acclaim last year. The film explores the profound impact of childhood parental illness and highlights the extraordinary power of imagination in coping with traumatic events. Bird’s haunting and evocative musical compositions provide a serene and perfect backdrop for the film’s poignant and visually stunning storytelling.

Now, Bird unveils her latest single, “What The Night Knows”. Produced by the legendary Mike Hedges (U2, Travis, The Cure) and co-written with the renowned Belgian composer Jeroen Swinnen, “What The Night Knows” is a serene, dream-like folk/electronica track brimming with hypnotic melodies and tinged with subtle Americana vibes. The song is an exquisite reflection of the narrative themes from “Wider Than The Sky” and exemplifies Bird’s unique ability to effortlessly blend folk roots with delicate electronic elements.

Speaking on the haunting creative inspirations behind “What The Night Knows”, Bird shares “I wrote this song in Tuscany in an old house that gave me strange vivid dreams…I’ve always had a curious relationship with night time and sleep – as a child I was very fearful of the dark, especially during a period when my father and mother were both very sick and I had to stay with friends of the family in unfamiliar rooms. As an adult and as a musician the night turned into a time of great intense creativity for me where I would hide in small studios and hone my craft. (Studio time was a lot cheaper – often even free – at night too)! On the original version of the song there is a tea cup stirring sound and counting at the start which pays homage to the film Get Out by director Jordan Peele. Mike Hedges (producer) and I watched it together at my place…we’d actually already recorded the song but I felt the song really connected with the film – hypnotism, the place between wake and sleep…so we put those new elements in at the start..for the radio edit this had to be cut but it’s there on the album.”
