Kings Elliot has seen a remarkable ascent in recent years, gracing international stages with Imagine Dragons, touring across North America alongside the rising troubadour Stephen Sanchez, and opening for Lana Del Rey at her iconic Hyde Park set last summer. Her latest project, “I’m Not Always Sad, Sometimes I’m Angry”, showcases her dynamic and evolving artistry through an expressive six-track collection that pairs raw, deeply emotive lyricism with lush, resonant melodies.
The EP opens with the atmospheric tones of “I Hate The Sun”, immediately setting a reflective, contemplative tone that combines Elliot’s authentic lyrics and distinctive, tender vocals with delicate, ethereal instrumental arrangements. “Sweet Nothing”, the standout track and centrepiece of the project, is a bold pop anthem brimming with character and versatility. In this track, Elliot delivers an unapologetically empowering message, celebrating self-discovery with unfiltered confidence and captivating grace.
Reflecting on “Sweet Nothing”, Kings explains “’Sweet Nothing’ is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I dove headfirst into new lyrical and sonic territories, and in the process, I unleashed a side of myself I’ve never shown before. It’s raw, fierce, and unapologetic, and I’ve loved every second of letting go and exploring these untamed emotions. This song has been a bold, freeing experience, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
Diving into the tracks and explaining how this project differs from her previous work, Kings Elliot shares “I’m Not Always Sad, Sometimes I’m Angry’ is a bit tongue in cheek, but it’s also the truth! While my previous songs might suggest I live in constant melancholy, this EP proves the opposite, delving into emotions beyond sadness – like anger, frustration, and a raw sense of empowerment. Some of the tracks were devastating to write, while others filled me with an energy I’ve never felt before. I’m incredibly proud of this collection because it’s honest and different, revealing new facets of my healing journey and a side of me no one’s seen until now. My favourite song on it is ‘Sweet Nothing.’ Despite being fuelled by anger and a tough story, I had the most fun writing it, and performing it is even better. It’s given me a sense of empowerment and sass that I’ve never fully allowed myself to feel before.”
