We connected with NOURI to talk through the religious symbolism of the video, the creative process behind crafting the track, and exploring new genres in future music.

Congratulations on the video for “Change In Your Name”! What was the creative process behind the video?

Thank you so much! The inspiration for the video was from my favourite book The Alchemist. It’s about the journey of life to find your true purpose in it. I also wanted to show that God will always show up when you need Him – this is why I wanted to create rain in the desert – to represent that meaning. The director Reece Selvadorai and producer Mike Correlli did an amazing job bringing that to life.

Can you tell us about the creative process for the track itself?

At the time when I wrote it, I felt lost and alone. I started to talk to God and through this conversation the lyrics of change in your name happened. It was a real, genuine moment and I knew it was an amazing song right away just because I really felt it and it was true to me. It’s amazing because I feel like God wrote the song through me.

How has your personal faith journey influenced the lyrics and emotional depth of the single?

My love for God has and always will be a part of what I do. I wouldn’t have been able to write this song without him and I wouldn’t be where I am in life and in music without God. Ever since I started strengthening my relationship with him it feels like making music comes so fluidly.

How has your music and artistic vision evolved since your debut on “Where Do We Go From Here” in 2018?

It’s always evolving! I’m influenced by multiple genres and artists so I’m having fun making music with no boundaries. The core of my music is to always stay true to myself regardless of what genre that is. Writing and singing songs that make you feel, that mean something and feels timeless. That will always win me over because it’s who I am to the core as a person and as an artist. I listen to a lot of worship and country music so you will hear that a lot in my upcoming songs but I’m excited to see where music takes me next.

What have been some of the highlights from your career to-date?

I was born in a Syrian refugee camp and my song ‘Change In Your Name’ has been on Billboard for 10 weeks now. That will never feel normal to me! I’ve always known that your start in life doesn’t determine where you end up. Hard work and God’s timing has proven that! I’m glad because I’ve always wanted to prove that, not just to myself, but to others in similar situations; that anything is possible no matter where you come from. Put God first, work hard, stay consistent and you can make anything happen. This is only the beginning too; I’ve got a couple Grammys and Oscars to win to really prove that it doesn’t matter where you come from before I’m truly satisfied.

You’re balancing your sound between the pop and gospel scenes, are there any other genres you’d like to venture into?

Yes, for sure. Country music has always been a favourite of mine, it’s always come so naturally to me and I’m always listening and singing those songs. My ultimate goal with any genre or song I create is to make it beautiful and timeless. I want my music to be played 20-50 years from now.

What can fans expect from you in 2025?

A lot more music, and finally some live shows!
