FROZEMODE IS ON REPEAT

Giggs, Amyl & The Sniffers, Denzel Curry: London alternative rap trio Frozemode divulge the influences of their new body of work, “DEMODE 3”.

Frozemode Is On Repeat

Pitched somewhere between alternative rap, post-punk, and nu-metal, with a sprinkle of dance music, London trio Frozemode are turning heads with their full-throttle maximalist approach to sonic creation. Picking up plenty of plaudits across the past few years, the group complete a trilogy of tapes with the all-new “DEMODE 3”.

The new project epitomises what the three-piece is all about – live carnage. It’s music you’re meant to listen to with pricked ears, designed to challenge you, and to make you move your feet. Translated with ease into a cohesive project, it’s a genre-spanning, energy-laden collection of cuts. But what inspired it? The band reveal all in our latest On Repeat.

Listen to “DEMODE 3”…

Giggs – “Look What the Cat Dragged In”

This one’s the most obvious. We literally interpolated the main line of this track in Hollowman Ting, the second song on the EP. Giggs is the Godfather of UK rap, so we had to pay homage to one of the GOATs who inspired us all growing up. You might not expect it because this is our most live-sounding, rocky, heavy project yet but on this EP we probably focused on our rapping more than ever. Because no matter how rock-heavy a Frozemode track gets, we can never lose sight of the fact we are rappers first.

Ghetts – “Gasmark 9”

The amount of energy Ghetts puts into his flows is unmatched. Our performances on MANGA MC are reminiscent of that mad, almost theatrical energy. One thing that makes Ghetts one of the best in grime is how instantly recognisable his flow and cadence are. That individuality has always inspired us. As a trio, it’s especially important that each one of us has our own distinctive flow, sound, and cadence. Those differences, when combined, are where a lot of our power lies.

Amyl & The Sniffers – “Hertz”

This track has undeniable, propulsive energy. Listening to it feels like you’re being forced to run forward. That’s the exact energy we wanted to capture, especially on Get Up and Go. When we were in the studio recording for this EP, one of the producers had the visuals for Hertz on repeat, cementing that vibe. We love Amyl’s screechy, abrasive vocals on these punk bangers, and we try to bring that same high-pitched edge to our own tracks in places.

JPEGMAFIA – “SIN MIEDO”

Peggy’s refusal to care about genre confines is always inspiring. SIN MIEDO has ridiculous production, those electric guitar samples are mad. JPEGMAFIA is never afraid of “scaring the hoes” with abrasive, in-your-face shit. On this EP, neither are we.

Limp Bizkit – “Break Stuff

None of us really grew up listening to Nu Metal. But watching a documentary about it once made us really realise the effect it has live is undeniable, especially seeing Limp Bizkit performing this song. On this EP we always thought about how each song would transfer to our live set, and each of the songs on it got reproduced to be made to sound much closer to the live versions we perform of them.

Wu-Tang Clan – “Wu‐Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit”

An anthem and a statement this track is full on in your face, holding nothing back. Of course the fact its made by a group of rappers also draws a direct correlation to us and we’re all fans of them. Sometimes a simple hook and hard bars in between is all that you need (Looking at us hint hint). Frozemode aint nutting ta F’ Wit.

Turnstile – “UNDERWATER BOI”

Turnstile perfectly blend the heavy music sound with spacey more melodic elements and it sounds fire. We feel like we’ve got so many different sides to us and combining them has always been fun but also a struggle at times. This track perfectly encapsulates this current era of Turnstile while being both alternative and commercial and is something we definitely want to capture. Go listen to “Back on Road”, you might get similar vibes.

Travis Scott – “90210”

Etherial vibes with real lyricism, just an amazing song in general. Very cinematic and this is something we’ve always incorporated in our music. When we were making “Jumpscare”, we were actually thinking about how to bring that ethereal trap sound into our heavier music. The 3 of us grew up on trap and it’s ingrained in our history. More of that stuff is also in the works.

Deftones – “Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)”

Heavy, catchy, raw this track has stood the test of time and is a classic in the genre. The switches between the chanting, mantra-like lyrics and the smooth vocals is 1 of a kind. The guitar riff on this song and the whole album are infectious and is something we’ve tried to bring into this EP. Go listen through it, our guitarists have not let us down.

Denzel Curry – “SKED”

This year, we did a show with Denzel Curry and it was honestly one of the highlights of our career so far. The 3 of us have been listening to him for years and the show was absolutely insane, the crowd went crazy and we had such a good time performing. This track is super catchy and stays in your brain. Denzel feature one day…
