WHAT MAKES YOU DANCE?

Ahead of All Points East’s weekend debut this Friday, we spoke to 11 of your favourite festival-bound artists to get their cheat codes on what makes them boogie.

What Makes You Dance?

Who doesn’t like to dance? It’s a celebration of movement, an excursion of bad energy. Something you do with loved ones, strangers or just by yourself. It’s one of life’s untouchable joys.

What makes us dance varies on the person. Some like a swooning salsa, some an Irish jig, others heavy drums and a wobbly bass. In the case of R&B’s hottest, kwn? “Tequila and pretty women.”

Ahead of London’s day festival series kicking off tomorrow, we asked eleven acts who are set to descend on Victoria Park to answer a single, definitive question: What Makes You Dance?

“A basement, my best friends, a really good DJ who just gets it, and perfect lighting. Also listening to my new demos ( I dance a lot to them hehe).”

Amy Love – “It’s all about the tunes. When the DJ starts spinning 90s and early 2000s R&B, we’ll be dancing all night. Also – margaritas.”

Georgia South – “Receiving good news! The body’s natural response to joy is a lil bum wiggle hehe! Also, lots of tequila shots and 90s girl bangers!”

“Soulfulness and rhythm. Especially those rhythms that breathe, leaving just enough space to pull you in before they drop you back into the groove. I find that feeling anywhere from R&B to techno. Genre has never mattered as much to me as feeling. If the music has soul, space, and movement built into it, my body responds before my mind does.”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s hip-hop, punk, r&b, pop, or something in between. There’s something undeniable about an infectious rhythm that forces you to move no matter how you feel in that moment.”
